johnwaitethegreatest.web-log.nl Without realizing it many people are acquainted with John Waite. Although a first encounter with the name John Waite doesnt immediately ring a bell, a short summary of his musical achievements commands very soon recognition, admiration and respect. Especially his unique, pristine and fragile voice throws people into ecstasies. John Waite is The Babys, the solo hit Missing You and – of course – Bad English. Being born in Lancaster – England – on the 4th of Juli 1952, John Waite is above all known for his movingly – delicately sung rock ballads. Like no other his voice is capable to shape the stilled emotions and chilled romantic relations through singular songs and lovely tuneful scores – the voice of John Waite is one of unmatched quality. The excellently modest, crystal clear sung, distinct vocals accomplish that pieces of music like: Isnt It Time, Every Time I Think Of You (with The Babys), Missing You, Time Stood Still and When I See You Smile (with Bad English) are ever more often being regarded as pinnacles of the rocking chronicles. Together with The Babys John Waite had big hits, apart from The Netherlands also in Japan, Italy and Germany, but in particular in the US of America. Very well known are: Isnt It Time (nr. 4 position in The Netherlands – 1977), Every Time I Think Of You (nr. 7 position in 1979) and Piece Of The Action – records that were played perpetually by Frits Spits and others. After The Babys separated in 1981, John

John Waite: These Times Are Hard for Lovers

John Waite song: These Times Are Hard for Lovers from the Rover’s Return album (1987)

“Missing You” is a song recorded by John Waite. Waite’s version hit number one for one week on the Billboard Hot 100 on September 22, 1984 and number nine on the UK Singles Chart. He penned the lyrics within a few minutes because he was in America and missing his English wife, Lynne. This song was also recorded by Evan Dando and Tom Morgan as a part of Triple J’s Live at The Wireless. Dando can clearly be heard saying “I think its by Tom Waits”, before being corrected by Morgan. This song was also recorded by Tina Turner in 1996 on her Wildest Dreams album and hit #12 in the UK and #84 in the US “Missing You” was also recorded by country music duo Brooks & Dunn in 1999 on their Tightrope album; their version peaked at #15 on the country chart. John Waite re-recorded the song with country/bluegrass artist Alison Krauss and released it to country music radio in 2007. The re-recording peaked at #34 on the Hot Country Songs chart. Tyler Hilton has also done a cover of Missing You on One Tree Hill and with Taylor Swift at her concert, as can be seen on YouTube.[1] Another cover came from Rod Stewart in 2006 on his most recent album, Still the Same… Great Rock Classics of Our Time. Recorded at “Fall For Greenville” Greenville, SC 1993
