Back home again – Hugh Kelly with Susanna Heystek and friends

At the Leslieville Antique days, I heard Hugh singing one of my favourite John Denver Country songs. I asked him if would perform with Susanna for this recording, which he willingly did. So we recorded the song there at the campfire between the camping trailers, and I added some video scenes from the Leslieville antiques days and the area to express the good country life.

Leaving on a Jet Plane Cover by Danny Ray

Such a great song with so many great versions. I think I’m most familiar with John Denver (it’s his song) and Chantal Kreviazuk’s versions, but somehow sing it differently every time I play it. Shot at Cellar 17 wine bar. Thanks for watching! facebook.com/dannyrayacoustic

City of New Orleans is a folk song written by Steve Goodman, describing a train ride from Chicago to New Orleans via the Illinois Central Railroad in bittersweet and nostalgic terms. Goodman got the idea while traveling on the eponymous train for a visit to his wife’s family. He performed the song for Arlo Guthrie in the Quiet Knight, a bar in Chicago, and Guthrie agreed to add it to his repertoire. The song was a hit for Guthrie on his 1972 album Hobo’s Lullaby, and is now more closely associated with him, although Goodman performed it until his death in 1984. The song has also been covered by Willie Nelson, John Denver, Johnny Cash, Judy Collins, Jerry Reed, Chet Atkins, Hank Snow, and others. Willie Nelson version Steve Goodman won a posthumous Grammy Award for Best Country Song in 1984 for Willie Nelson’s version, which was included on his 1984 album of the same name. It reached #1 on both the Billboard Hot Country Singles chart in the United States[and the RPM Country Tracks chart in Canada. The City of New Orleans – Lyrics Ridin’ on the City of New Orleans Illinois Central, Monday mornin’ rail Fifteen cars and fifteen restless riders Three conductors and twenty-five sacks of mail All along the south-bound odyssey The train pulls out at Kankakee And rolls along past houses, farms and fields Passin’ trains that have no names And freight yards full of old black men And the grave-yards of the rusted automobiles Good morning America, how are you? Say don’t you know me, I

Ted Vigil is the real deal. He also does a very authentic John Denver tribute. We were waiting for the same plane out of Minneapolis-St. Paul and he agreed to let me tape him rehearsing in the airport. For those who (like me) took great delight in criticizing Mr. “Sunshine-on-my shoulder” during the 70s; Ted Vigil may change your mind. He’s got a YouTube channel now – visit www.youtube.com Or send him good wishes in an e-mail – teddenver@hotmail.com

Olivia Newton-John – Take me home Country Roads 1972 Original by John Denver 1970 Country roads, take me home To the place I belong West Virginia, mountain mama Take me home, country roads Almost heaven, West Virginia Blue Ridge Mountains, Shenandoah River Life is older there, older than the trees Younger than the mountain Blowing like a breeze Country roads, take me home To the place I belong West Virginia, mountain mama Take me home, country roads All my memories gather round her Minor’s lady, stranger to blue water Dark and dusty, blowing in the sky Misty taste of moonshine Teardrops in my eye Country roads, take me home To the place I belong West Virginia, mountain mama Take me home, country roads I hear her voice in the morning hour She calls me The radio reminds me of my home far away And driving down the road I get a feeling That I should’ve been home yesterday, yesterday Country roads, take me home To the place I belong West Virginia, mountain mama Take me home, country roads Country roads, take me home To the place I belong West Virginia, mountain mama Take me home, country roads Take me home, country roads Take me home, country roads
