Formed in Liverpool, England in the 1960s by comic John Gorman, poet Roger McGough and Mike McGear, The Scaffold specialized in comic songs, such as this one, which was their only UK number one, with more experimental, lyrical and avant-garde work on their albums. Lily The Pink was a fairly bawdy Folk song that had migrated from Ireland which, in turn was based on a bawdy Folk song “The Ballad of Lydia Pinkham,” probably from Canada though based on an American subject. Canadian Version: (19th Century) Let us sing (let us sing) of Lydia Pinkham The benefactress of the human race. She invented a vegetable compound, And now all papers print her face, O, Mrs. Brown could do no housework, O, Mrs. Brown could do no housework, She took three bottles of Lydia’s conpound, And now there’s nothing she will shirk, she will shirk, Mrs. Jones she had no children, And she loved them very dear. So she took three bottles of Pinkham’s Now she has twins every year. Lottie Smyth ne’er had a lover, Blotchy pimples caused her plight; But she took nine bottles of Pinkham’s– Sweethearts swarm about her each night. Oh Mrs. Murphy (Oh Mrs. Murphy) Was perturbed because she couldn’t seem to pee Till she took some of Lydia’s compound And now they run a pipeline to the sea! And Peter Whelan (Peter Whelan) He was sad because he only had one nut Till he took some of Lydia’s compound And now they grow in clusters ’round his butt. Just after the turn of the 20th century, the song crossed the Atlantic

Versions by The Beatles and by The Hollies appeared simultaneously, both being released in the UK on 3 December 1965. The Hollies version appeared on a single. Most of the Hollies previous singles had been big top ten hits. When their version of “If I Needed Someone” only reached the lower half of the top 20 in the UK, they were quite critical and said had they had made a mistake recording it. The Beatles recording of the song first appeared in the UK on the 1965 album Rubber Soul and was later included in the 1966 US release “Yesterday and Today”. The Beatles version was recorded on 16 October and 18 October 1965, the basic track being recorded right after sessions for “Day Tripper”. History: The song was heavily influenced by the music of The Byrds. In a 2004 radio interview with the BBC in London, Roger McGuinn confirmed that Harrison had sent a tape recording of the song to him in Los Angeles before it was released on record

PLEASE NOTE: I divided my uploads between multiple channels, Bookmark this link in your browser for instant access to an index with links to all of John1948′s oldies classics. LINK: tinyurl.com The Kalin Twins remain the archetypal one-hit wonders. Their only Top 10 chart hit – “When” – may have cruelly prophesied the question as to further success. Originally discovered by Clint Ballard, Jr., the writer of many hit records such as “Good Timin’” for Jimmy Jones, and “I’m Alive” for The Hollies, the sibling duo had a couple of early recording flops. However, in 1958, after searching through piles of writers’ demo tapes, their management discovered the song called “When”, written by Paul Evans and Jack Reardon. It topped the UK Singles Chart, got to Number 5 in their US homeland, and sold over two million copies in the process. The track remained in the UK listings for eighteen weeks, five of which were at Number One. They had no further UK chart entries. Harold (Hal) and Herbert (Herbie) were the first set of twins to reach number one in the UK as a duo, followed years later by The Proclaimers. They were supported by Cliff Richard on their only UK tour. Their second single, “Forget Me Not,” reached Number 12 in the US Billboard chart later in 1958. After two further low-ranking entries in 1959, they never reached the charts again. Herbert Kalin was married and had four children, Suzan Lynn, Kelly Lee, Buddy Ladd, and Jonathan Ray. Eventually, disillusioned with diminishing

„Surfin` USA”, „Fun, Fun, Fun”, „Barbara Ann”, „Sorry Suzanne”, „Bus Stop”, „Carrie Anne”, „A hard days night”, “Can`t buy me love”, “Twist and shout”, “Nowhere Man”, “Reflections of my Life” ,”Needles and Pins”, “What ever you want” ua sind Titel aus dem vielseiten und sehr abwechselungsreichen Programm der “CHAINS”.

When I Think Of Home By RedHeart & Fabio

Fabio from Brazil singing a song I wrote.

Bob Dylans Song Lyrics: Oh the time will come up When the winds will stop And the breeze will cease to be breathin’. Like the stillness in the wind ‘Fore the hurricane begins, The hour when the ship comes in. Oh the seas will split And the ship will hit And the sands on the shoreline will be shaking. Then the tide will sound And the wind will pound And the morning will be breaking. Oh the fishes will laugh As they swim out of the path And the seagulls they’ll be smiling. And the rocks on the sand Will proudly stand, The hour that the ship comes in. And the words that are used For to get the ship confused Will not be understood as they’re spoken. For the chains of the sea Will have busted in the night And will be buried at the bottom of the ocean. A song will lift As the mainsail shifts And the boat drifts on to the shoreline. And the sun will respect Every face on the deck, The hour that the ship comes in. Then the sands will roll Out a carpet of gold For your weary toes to be a-touchin’. And the ship’s wise men Will remind you once again That the whole wide world is watchin’. Oh the foes will rise With the sleep still in their eyes And they’ll jerk from their beds and think they’re dreamin’. But they’ll pinch themselves and squeal And know that it’s for real, The hour when the ship comes in. Then they’ll raise their hands, Sayin’ we’ll meet all your demands, But we’ll shout from the bow your days are numbered. And like Pharaoh’s tribe, They’ll be drownded in the tide

Badfinger Doc 2 of 6

To part 3 www.youtube.com Fr/Wiki: Griffiths left the group shortly after these sessions. Reportedly, the primary reason was because he was the only married occupant of the communal band home, now raising a child there, and this created some friction, mainly between his wife, Evans and manager Collins. Griffiths officially was out of the picture by the beginning of November 1969. In October 1969, while the release of “Come and Get It” was pending, the band and Apple Records agreed that a name change was critical. “The Iveys” were still sometimes confused with “The Ivy League”, and the name was considered too trite for the current music scene. After much debate, the group changed their name to Badfinger. Other suggestions had included: “The Glass Onion,” “The Prix”, and “The Cagneys” from John Lennon, and “Home” by Paul McCartney. The name Badfinger was suggested by Apple’s Neil Aspinall as a reference to “Bad Finger Boogie”, an early working title of Lennon/McCartney’s “With a Little Help from My Friends”, alleged by Neil Aspinall being that Lennon had composed the melody on a piano using his middle finger, after having hurt his forefinger. For over a month the group unsuccessfully auditioned bass guitarists to replace Ron Griffiths. With the release date of “Come and Get It” fast approaching, Badfinger finally hired Liverpudlian guitarist Joey Molland (previously with Gary Walker & The Rain, Masterminds, and The Fruit-Eating Bears) at the last minute, which required
