Original countrymusic is a type of music that has a unique sound and style with a blend of musical forms originally found in the Southern United States. It evolved from traditional folk music, gospel music and old-time or hillbilly music beginning in the mid-1920s. The term country music began to surface in the mid-1940s when the earlier term hillbilly music was considered degrading. Today it is referred to as original country music, thereby distinguishing it from the current sound of country music. Artists who sang original country music had a distinctive sound, a sort of brand that made them easily identifiable from their peers. You didnt have to ask someone who was singing, because if you were a follower of the music, you knew. This was true regardless of gender. Hank Snow, Hank Thompson, Faron Young, Ernest Tubb, Hank Williams, Bob Wills, The Louvin Brothers, Ray Price, Eddy Arnold, Loretta Lynn, Kitty Wells, Dottie West, Patsy Cline and Connie Smith all had distinguishable voices as did their legion of peers. In addition, the music was presented in a heartfelt and professional manner. The industry fostered respect and it was exemplified in the method in which the artists presented themselves on and off stage and what they wore. There were no faded and torn jeans, unmatched apparel or garments with low necklines exposing cleavage (except in the case of Dolly Parton, which couldnt be avoided). Original country music began to drift away from its long standing
